On Mount Kilimanjaro Incredible!
Snow-capped Kilimanjaro, floating above the clouds is no doubt one of the most beautiful and impressive monuments the natural world. Even hard non-believers, in their unguarded moments, empathy with the Masai, called the "House of God." The mountain is one of the Seven Summits best in the world â € "which has the highest point in Africa. Although there are high mountains, which form part of mountain ranges, Everest, for example. But Kili, as it is popularly known, is the highest independent mountain in the world. It rises gently from 3,000 feet, reaches for the skies and stops only after a rise of 16,000 feet. The base diameter is an amazing 64 kilometers.
Kilimanjaro is situated northeast of Tanzania, on the border with Kenya. There is a popular myth of how the mountain became part of Tanzania, which was once part of the German Empire. Queen Victoria is supposed to have granted the mountain to her grandson German Wilhelm (later Kaiser Wilhelm II) as a birthday present. It is also said that the Germans had been complaining about the injustice blatant lack of a mountain covered with snow within their empire while the Queen has two â € "the second is Mount Kenya.
Although Historians have debunked the myth, has refused to die and remains a source of amusement for many. Willing to let the truth get in the way, some anti-colonial historians fume with indignation, citing the limits of East Africa are arbitrarily decided in the capitals of the imperial powers. For most people in the west, Kilimanjaro has long been associated with Ernest Hemingway because of his 1936 short story "The Snows of Kilimanjaro". In 1952, Hollywood, fascinated by the magic of Kili the book evokes, turned it into a movie with Gregory Peck and Ava Gardner in the leading roles.
Kilimanjaro is young, so the mountain range, and allow geologists only 750,000 years. The mountain consists of three dormant volcanoes-Kibo (19,340 feet), Shira (13,000 feet) and Mawenzi (16,896 feet). Kibo occasionally belches some steam and sulfur. The highest point on Kibo is Uhuru Peak, showing some impressive glaciers and fantastic views the country then. Though Kili is only three degrees south of Ecuador, the peaks of Kibo and Mawenzi are covered with ice and snow throughout the year. Many people highly competitive in Europe learned that a snow
mountain could be found in Ecuador, when the German missionary Johann Rebmann reported in 1849.
Going up the mountain, moving from tropical to arctic conditions. There are five different climate zones with each zone having approximately 3,300 feet. The areas are: the lower slopes, then forest, then moorland, desert and the summit of the Alps. The lower slopes are cultivated and agriculture flourishes. The dry forest region in the north and humid towards the south side. The forest has many species of trees such as Podocarpus, camphor, fig and olive trees and bamboo. The only animals found here are blue and Colobus monkeys and a variety of birds, such as rhinoceros and Turaco. In the region of moor, is the giant groundsels and lobelias common in the high altitude mountain regions of East Africa. Further up the vegetation and animal life are rare.
Kili is the summit the world more accessible. "Any reasonably strong and ambitious person, without using any special mountaineering team can beat this giant. However, it is labor hard. The altitude and the resulting air is the main challenge and not its force. To avoid succumbing to altitude sickness, guides you constantly advise, take the mountain slowly, slowly or "pole pole" as they say in Swahili. Therefore, you should avoid a quick ascent and take time to acclimate to the oxygen of the mountains air challenge. Ignoring good advice like many young people reach the summit, where climbers older deliberate whatever.
To enjoy beauty and majesty of Kili, you do not even have to climb. Using a four-wheel drive vehicle, you can ascend to the Shira Plateau, which is perched on 12,000 feet. The first recorded person who has reached the summit is the German climber Hans Meyer in 1889. Unlike today's climber, do not have the benefit of a route map and only came on the second attempt. Having been taught a lesson in humility for the second attempt, he brought along an expert in the Alps and a local guide. Meyer named the summit after the Kaiser Wilhelm II, but years later was revised to Uhuru or freedom in Swahili. Since the days of Meyer, the ice has receded and scientists fear it will vanish completely in 20 to 50 years. So, hurry up and climb Kili while it is still a great show.
Today, few climbers just use the easy road, first by Meyer. The climb normally takes five to six days and consists of four fifty and six nights in comfortable mountain huts. The Marangu route, which was created back in 1909 is the easiest and most popular and is used by over 90% of the climbers. Experienced climbers prefer the more scenic and difficult Machame route. Climbers are not entirely without sense of humor and concern as the Marangu route Coca Cola and whiskey as the Machame route. Other routes are Shira, Mweka and UMBWE.
Shira is a scenic route that takes you through the Shira Plateau, arriving by car four-wheel drive. The route offers beautiful views of the Rift Valley and Mount Meru. Using Mweka, reaching the summit and return to base in 4 days. But as you might suspect, is quite steep and therefore not easy at all. The route UMBWE is even greater and faster and takes only three days up and down. The route is spectacular, but it is for alignment and the experience and casual climbers. There are also technical routes such as the Western Gap and Lemosho routes.
Although the route you choose, all Kili climbs start at Marangu Gate. This is where you get permission and pay fees. In the typical Marangu route climb, spending four nights to the mountain. The route is clearly the right to the summit. You start by trekking through the area of forest to Mandara Hut (9,000 feet) for the first night. From now through heathlands, for end a second night in Horombo Hut (12,450 feet). Then, through the wilderness of the Alps, his third night finds you at Kibo Hut (15,450 feet). But I really do not sleep there progress of the summit shortly after midnight. Then descend back to Horombo Hut, for its last night after a total journey of around of 77 kilometers. If you want to spend more time on top of acclimatization, you can overnight twice in Horombo Hut.
Turning the Machame route, you spend a night in the overnight in mountain. You Machame Hut, Shira Hut and Barranco Hut. It connects to the Mweka route and continue Barafu Hut. After addressing the summit, you have to lose their last night at Mweka Hut. The next day, meet with other men at the base of the mountain. It is recommended to choose the path that best suits their experience. Most aspire to reach Uhuru Peak – the highest point on Kibo, and indeed all Kili. Others are satisfied with the point Gillman, slightly below the peak of Kibo. But, Mawenzi, actually lower than the peaks of Kibo, is more jagged and requires experience in mountaineering. Many climbers find the scale Kili, whatever height reaching a very satisfying experience.
But do not be disappointed if they do not reach the summit.Different estimates indicate that only 15-30% of climbers reach to the top. Climbing Kilimanjaro is for those who are physically fit and mentally prepared. It is his ability to raise an extra dose of determination that when things will get tough. In terms of fitness, start taking walks uphill with a pack strapped on his back. This tested promotion, unless of course height. Think also of putting in some aerobic training in the gym and running. If you have heart problems or lung, better not to risk the climb. In all cases, it is a good idea to speak with your personal physician to make sure they do not bite more than they can chew.
It is better buy a climbing tour package to take advantage of local knowledge. The typical package package together: return transfers – Moshi or Arusha to Marangu Gate, the park and rescue fees, services of guides, porters and cooks, accommodation in mountain huts and all meals on the mountain. Also, you need to hire locally or bring equipment and sleeping bags. Some useful things to bring include – waterproof boots, rain suit, flashlights, sunglasses, prophylaxis for the disease tall, hand gloves and shoes at night. You need a backpack to carry a few essentials, like your computer chargers usually raises its own way. Some items to carry on your back include bottled water, extra clothes, camera and sunscreen.
