"how to be proactive and prevent childhood obesity

If your child is at risk of being overweight or currently at a healthy weight, you can take proactive steps to get or keep things on track.

* Schedule annual well-child visits. Take your child to the doctor for checkups at least once a year. During this visit, the doctor will measure your child's height and weight and calculates your body mass index. Increases in BMI of their children or percentile rank over a year, especially if your child is over 4, is a possible sign that your child is at risk of becoming overweight.
* Set a good example. Make sure you eat healthy foods and exercising regularly to maintain their weight. Then ask your child to join you.
* Avoid foods related with power struggles with your child. You might unintentionally lay the groundwork for such battles by providing or withholding certain foods – sweets, for example – as rewards or punishments. As a general rule, foods are not recommended for behavior modification in children.
* Emphasize the positive. Promoting a healthy lifestyle, emphasizing the positive aspects – the fun of playing outside or the variety of fresh fruit is available throughout the year, for example. Emphasize the benefits of exercise apart from helping to control weight, for example, makes your heart, lungs and muscles stronger than others. If you encourage your child's natural inclination to run, explore and eat only when hungry – not boredom – a healthy weight should take care of itself.
* Be patient. Many overweight children become their extra pounds as higher. Realize, too, that an intense focus on the eating habits of her son and weight can easily backfire, leading to a child to eat more, or possibly making it more likely to develop an eating disorder.

Since you found this site, I assume you are interested in gaining a few extra inches of height.
