The social media landscape is now bigger and more bewildering than ever, and as such it can be hard for even the most accomplished social media professional to remain up-to-date. As such more and more users are looking to tools such as Radian6 to help them manage their social media needs. However, it can be difficult to decipher what exactly these tools do, and therefore which is best for business. I will therefore discuss Radia6 in this post to give you a better understanding of just what it can offer you and your business, and therefore whether or not it is the tool for you.

At its most basic, Radian6 aims to ensure that brands never miss a post.

We offer unequalled coverage of the social web and provide metrics to measure what is being said, and by whom. —David Alston, CMO Radian6.

Radian6 allows you to see any brand mentions made about you or your business right across the social media spectrum and then rates the meaning of such mentions and allows you to monitor feelings towards your brand.  Particularly if you are a big brand, it can be very hard to find all the relevant information out there amongst all the ‘noise’, it is therefore important to be able to filter out all the spammers in order to find the meaningful conversations.

“Radian6 offers users comprehensive coverage of discussions on the social web, covering hundreds of millions of blogs, comments, the public Facebook API and the full Twitter firehose. In addition to this coverage, Radian6 is scalable within an enterprise, allowing online comments to be assigned within the business, to customer service, sales, marketing and so forth. Radian6 also integrates with other enterprise applications like Salesforce.com and analytics like Webtrends, Omniture and Google Analytics.” —David Alston

Despite the number of competitors in social media monitoring tools constantly rising, Radian6 has remained securely at the top of its industry. The first reason for this is the fact they released their software early and engaged with top opinion leaders not only to test their product, but also to promote it. They have also set themselves up as the number one choice for big brand organisations to go to when they are seeking to monitor the social web and have therefore cemented their place at the top of the social media monitoring industry.

Whilst Radian6 is a really strong, and fully comprehensive tool, it may be too much for many smaller organizations. Unless you are having hundreds, if not thousands of mentions a day, there is no need to have such a large-scale monitoring tool, especially as a result of the cost. What I would suggest is that before you look to make a significant layout on this software, seek to use the free smaller-scale tools first in order to see if they provide you with enough information.

There are a number of faults with the Radian6 system, firstly is the issue of having multiple interfaces. Instead of one user interface, you must use both a web-based and a desktop based interface in order to fully utilise the software. This is not only time consuming but is quite complicated and can become time consuming. Another issue lies in the fact that Radian6 still does not have a phone app. This means there is no way of accessing the information whilst on the go which is often a very important element for many social media users. There is also the issue of the pricing, which can become very expensive for all but the larger brands. Whilst the fees do vary based on your needs, they can be quite daunting which is again why I would suggest you look at your brands needs before deciding whether or not you need this product. Also, despite the large volume range these pricing options offer, it is very easy to exceed these limits and therefore can add even more cost to your project.

Overall, Radian6 is clearly a very useful monitoring tool with a variety of features that allows you to monitor a wide and varying landscape. The company also offers great technical support and back up and is well known for being open to ideas and suggestions. However, unless you are a large organization the use of Radian6 may be somewhat excessive and I would therefore suggest that you look to other cheaper, or even free monitoring tools. I would therefore suggest you sit down and figure out a list of must-have’s and would like to have’s before you decide on which programme to use.

If this all sounds a little scary and complicated, there are plenty of people who can help. For example you could look for a social media agency London, Edinburgh, Vancouver, Manchester or further afield for expert advice and help, either on what programme to choose, or on how to use it.

There is plenty more information available out there on the web about the different kinds of programme you can use so get investigating and good luck.

Rude comments about metric system?

Why are some commenters so rude to people who don’t know the metric system? One comment I read said “why wont people join the rest of the world in using the metric system?” GUESS WHAT!? Here in the USA we don’t use that so respect our unit of measurement and if someone mentions they don’t know the conversions then pipe down and leave it be.

PS- This is posted in heath because that is where people are having issues (with height and weight questions.)
In response to Solitaire….I learned the metric system waaaaaaay back in 3rd grade and becase we don’t use that here it’s been forgotten. I would just appriciate for everyone to accept and embrace that certain countries have their own way of doing things and we should not all be so crtiticle and rude.

Butterfly,

I agree with you 100% !! The US does not want to change over it’s system of measurement, and especially not to “join the rest of the world”. I think the Metric system is silly and it takes a calculator to figure out the things that you need done. I’m quite content with what we have. And if they don’t like that in Europe, they are welcome to stay home!

Since you found this site, I assume you are interested in gaining a few extra inches of height. Although (if you’re a mature adult) this may sound like a pipe dream, I assure you that it is easier than you think! We’ve all been taught that height is mostly out of our control, that it’s largely determined by genetics. I’m here to tell you that there is more to the story. Of course our gene pool has a lot to do with ones height, but it is definitely not the only factor. Your state of emotion, your exercise regimen, the food you eat, and the hours you sleep are all factors in height determination. Click here to read the rest of the article: Free Height Enhancement
