1. The browser will know the dimensions of the image, so it can set a placeholder (you know, the grey lined outline where the picture is going to go) and keep processing the rest of the page.
If it doesn’t know how big the image will be, it’ll wait until it starts downloading the image before it can format the rest of the page.
